Do your students also have to submit the application from outside Canada

That's what I thought -- thanks for the info. So how does it work for those students you have that is taking the caregiver course that you offer -- don't they have to leave and submit the application outside? I wonder if my friend could just take the course with you - stay here and apply that way?

The first work permit under the Live-in Caregiver program must be applied for from outside of Canada. Most of my students do not need  visas to go to the USA so it is not a problem and they go to the Canadian Consulate in Seattle. Those who do require a visa to go to the USA ideally have this visa when they arrive. It is possible to apply for a work permit by sending an application to a Canadian Consulate outside Canada by mail but they can require a personal interview  and you must be able to get there.
