How long does it take to get a work visa?

+1 vote
At the Canadian consulate in Manila, Philipines, it can take 6 months for a nanny to get an interview in order to get a work permit for live-in caregiver work in Canada.

However, I've heard that at the visa office in Seattle USA I can apply and get my visa in one day. Is this true or must I apply in advance of visiting the visa office. How long can I expect it to take?

Thank you in advance.

As I always say, there are no guarantees when it comes to getting a visa. But it is true that the procedure for applying varies greatly depending on which Canadian Consulate or Embassy you apply at.

However, applicants at Canadian Consulates in the USA can no longer get work permits or visas in one day. It now takes a minimum of one week. That changed last year (2011).

You can check the Immigration Canada for visa processing times at all the Consulates.
