Hi there

I'm from Karachi,Pakistan and want to know one thing;

Can a brother or sister be sponsored as a live in caregiver to look after a 2 yrs old child?

I've heard that such applications are refused by the local visa officer because employer and employee were siblings.Although a positive L.M.O might have been issued.

Has any one seen any such example??kindly share it with me.

There is no actual rule against it but I expect that the review process would be even more stringent than it already is because the immigration officials would expect that the job offer was not genuine and that the rules were not being explicitly followed.

a) Why would immigration official think that the job offer is not genuine?just because it is offered to the close relative???

b) The rule does not make sponsoring close relative prohibbitted.Then how can one think of rules not being followed?

The rules are not followed all the time by both employers and by caregivers. It is the government official's job to try to ensure that the rules will be followed and they are tightening them up all the time trying to prevent all the abuse of both the caregivers and the rules. I have only had one former student try to get a work permit to work for his sister and the delays in processing his paperwork went on until I believe he stopped trying. I haven't heard from him in a few months. Of course every case is different. One point to consider is there are already many caregivers who are already in Canada who are looking for jobs and I expect the immigration officials would first wonder why one of them was not being hired.
