I notice that someone posted a notice on this site looking for a job as a caregiver. In her notice she says she does not need special training because she has her hands full of special training that she obtained by looking after her autistic son. While I have no doubt that what she says is true, unfortunately the only experience that counts toward qualifying you for the Live-in Caregiver Program is paid work experience and it can not be gained by working for your family. The regulations say "to claim work experience, you need to have worked for 1 year, including at least six months of continuous employment for the same employer in a field or occupation similar to what you will do as a live-in caregiver. This experience must have been within the three years immediately before the day on which you make an application for a work permit as a caregiver".
